We did this a couple of years ago and it really was a pile of fun. We invited friends over in the late afternoon – about 4:00 p.m. On a serving table we had a stack of buckets, loads of microwave popcorn - -all different flavors and tons of “movie theater” candy – you know, things you only ever eat when you’re are the movies – Milk Duds, Goobers, Raisinettes, Twizzlers (strawberry of course), Sweet Tarts, Dots, Jujubees, Sugar Babies, Hot Tamales, Junior Mints, Spree, SnoCaps, Good ‘N Plenty.
Each guest got a bucket, their own personal popcorn and their favorite candy. One by one each guest popped their popcorn and emptied it into their bucket. Then, they grabbed their favorite beverage – (okay, here’s where we weren’t like the movie theater – we had an assortment of adult beverages) and proceeded to the “theater” of their choice. We had a romantic comedy showing in the family room
“theater” and a thriller playing in the living room “theater.” This was great because no one was forced to watch something they knew they were going to hate.
Everyone took their shoes off, got comfy on a chair, the sofa or even the floor (we had plenty of pillows and afghans for everyone) we dimmed the lights and let the movies begin.
When the movies were over, a simple dinner of spaghetti and meatballs, salad and garlic bread was served – all courtesy of Romano’s Macaroni Grill. I had picked it up early in the afternoon before the guests arrived, so all I had to do was reheat the spaghetti and garlic bread and bring out the salad.
Who says entertaining has to be complicated? I don’t.
Enjoy your movie night!
